Simon developed a keen interest in woodwork at the age of 17. Coming from a creative family, it wasn’t a difficult decision to pursue a creative trade early on as he enjoyed cabinet making; and so he started his trade as an apprentice for a reproduction antique company in Henfield in 1993.
Following a period of travelling, Simon soon found himself living and working in the United States. He was effectively continuing his woodworking apprenticeship with an Artisan woodworker, learning a myriad of styles and providing cabinets for the traditional Victorian homes in San Francisco. He progressed to working on modern designs during the city’s tech transformation and went onto work for larger commercial shops, giving him a real insight into the manufacturing process.
On his return to the UK he had the desire to develop a bespoke cabinet-making business that addressed his clients’ needs whilst complementing their living spaces. His experience and the techniques he has learned, both here and abroad, has helped him develop his interest into a highly successful business enterprise. He is motivated by the challenge to develop design ideas and solutions that are attractive and functional but also completely bespoke.
Building fitted and free-standing furniture continues to be a daily source of inspiration, focus and reward. He enjoys working as a team on customised designs in the form of wardrobes, offices and other living space solutions.
From hand-selecting the right timber in rough form, through to fitting it into its new home as an imagined and then realised finished piece Simon’s mantra truly is Dream, Design, Create.
